I hate to burst anyones bubble here , however , I have had about 20 emails this week asking about the Magnum v/s Connex 4800DXL. The Connex 4800DXL (better known as the Cobra 148F-DX) will crunch up the Magnum , put it in a bowl , pour milk on it and eat it for breakfast. |

307 - I am not doubting your expert assessment. Its a hard pill to swallow since I am the proud owner of the Magnum 257. I am assuming you are referring to the 257 because you have raved about the Delta. Or, is it that much better than the Delta too? Could you please explain how is "crunches up" the Magnum? Why is it such a better radio? Im really interested to know. |

I own both of them and the Connex is by far the best radio of the two. Hands down, No contest. |

do you mean the 257, 357.....
or the alpha and delta force......
what magnums are u talking about?
i have owned both deltaforce and connex4800 and i think the delta force BLOWS IT AWAY!!! the receive on the delta is much better and i think it sounds better talking to somone with a delta rather than a 4800

well my 2 1/2 cents 
I've used and owned several radios in the past...never really keeping them for an extended period of time...finally got a Delta about a year ago, let go of it once for a trade towards a RCI2990 base station...anyways....got it back and hands down is the BEST radio I've owned or operated. Receiver hear's things that most others would miss. As far as power...AM and SSB seem to be real close with each other, granted, you may see more swing on the Galaxy's and Connex's(considering they are modded out most of the time), but their audio falls way short compared to the Delta Force(no mods...out of the box tune up). Like I've told a friend of mine about the swing, (he's impressed by the big swing of galaxy's). "You want a big swing? I'll build you one in your backyard. You want a loud and clean sounding radio? Then get a Delta Force. |

from an individual tech view, both are close, but i would rather have the delta over the 4800. |

I owned 2 Delta Forces. Both sucked big time. The rx was noisy. Both radios over modulated. I didn't run any pwr mics nor clipped the mod limiters in the radios. I usually had to run my mic gain around the 10 oclock position. The turbo echo board gave me fuzzy echo. I have never tried out the Connex 4800, but I'd go with the 4800. |

I'd have to say you must have had something unusual. Maybe someone turned something inside they shouldn't have!
I've tuned and sold DOZENS of Deltas, Alphas, and Mavericks. NOT ONE sounded anything but incredible.
The early model Delta receivers were more prone to pick up electrical interference, but also out received most any other radio out there. |

i have only seen one magnum that sounded like dookie(incase there are any 10yr old nephews out there) i think it turned out to be a bad solder connection at the mic gain pot, but i am not really sure since i resoldered the whole audio chain by the schem(but did test after i reached the mic gain pot and seemed to be fine then), tightened all screws and mic port and antenna port.
the deltas are solidly built radios in my opinion. great modulation(btw, mod section is a near copy of the galaxy). and great rx(also a near copy of the rci/galaxy design). |

i am the proud owner of a magnum 257. reports tell me i am loud and clean and ssb is amazing. i have swapped the finals for matched 2312 and the driver twice once with 1307 and then with 2312. i have aligned and peak and still trying to find predriver mod for the 2314 that tests at 7 volts. i have the best ears in my area and can hear people far away that nobody else can hear. this radio in my opinion ranks damn close to the connex. any new mods would be appreciated. this is my first post. hello everyone!!!!! |

I own a Connex 4800DXL, I have owned probably 50 mobiles over the years, average time of usage 6 months, find something better move on, I have had the connex for two years now, and still am impressed with its overall performance. Great radio, all the mobile a person could ever need! And durable! |

Personally, I have found the Connex-DXL to have a quieter receiver and the DeltaForce to have cleaner and louder transmitted audio - both AM and SSB.
Yes, the Cobra and Connex can also get loud but the louder they get, the dirtier they sound. I just have this "thing" about clean audio.
But, if you want a million frequencies that you CAN'T use, the DXL's are the way to go. However, when set up and used correctly, the DXL is one kick-butt radio.
The DXL series is probably the only radio left that can give the Delta a good run for its money because they both have some good features along with some not so good.
Would I kick either one of them out of bed? Nope!

I had the 4800 a few years ago and ill say it was one of the loudest mobiles i have ever had!! I loved it! As for being better or the same as the Omega force or the like i dunno.... I kinda side with the RF Limited radios because i own a sweet AR 3500 100 watter i wouldnt trade for anything but id say if i were to do it again id get the 4800.... |

As you probably know, being the grandaddy of the RF Limited Magnum radios, your Clear Channel Corporation 100 watt AR-3500 is a rare find. They were the first solid state 10 meter radio and also the first programmable radio.
Quite a few 3500s were made but are still a rare find. And the 100 watt versions are a VERY rare find these days. Consider yourself fortunate to own one of the very first solid state 10 Meter radios ever produced. And in working order yet!
Whether you use your AR-3500-100 or not, it is definately a keeper.

kcogxz, i use my 3500 mostly on SSB since the AM side receiver is a tad too noisy for my taste. Too bad there isnt a mod to take care of this but oh well, but i will say this, it has the BEST receiver of ANY 10 meter radio ive ever had!! It hears thing none of my other radios can hear.
I agree with them being hard to find. Ive only found a couple more in my area that are the 100 watt version of the 3500 and the owners will NOT part with them. I know were there are a few 100 watt verisons of the 3300 though but i never cared for the looks of them... I will keep it though. I get lots of flowers when i use it on SSB!!! |

From what I understand, according to Lon, Copper now carries the Channel Guard kit. I have no idea what they are selling for but if you call them and tell them which I-F filter you have in your radio, they will tell you which filter-model you need. I believe there are now 3 different filter kits made.
These "Channel Guards" will tighten up any receiver and keep adjacent channel interference to a very minimum. This is the best thing you can do for any super wide banded receiver on a 10 meter radio.

I have never owned a connex but I do own a 257 and a DF.
The 257 is an alright radio...pwr low...but it is tiny and talks good I have nothing but compliments when using it.
I have had a DF for 2 weeks now and I love it... I got all the power I need the audio is great and it is much better than the 257..
I have seen a connex and just from what I know ....I dont think the connex can touch the DF much less the OF.....PS... I want a S9!!! |
