My dad pushes it with a late model 142gtl and he and I talk at 10pm at 100 miles apart.He gives me 3 s-units I give him 1,NOW we can talk after 3 yrs. of trying.So far no one has complained that I tear up their stereo or telephone or t.v.I live in a small town,he lives in the country |

Location, location is everything for CB'ing. And having your antenna above the surrounding trees and obstacles makes all the difference. My normal talking friends live in a 100-125 mile radius, and its no problem talking to mobiles 60-80 miles away if they have a little extra power, and I seldom run over 100 watts. Its the antenna, the center of my beam is about 75 feet, plus the location, I live on top of what we call a mountain in Arkansas, not much mountains compared to other states. This one is about 1200 feet ASL, but going south there is no higher point until the mountains in Mexico. Guess thats the reason I hear Mexico so much. lol. On late night good conditions, I have streached it out to about 200 miles in that direction, down into the edge of Louisana. We use to get short skip from around New Orleans, and the fishing boats in the Gulf, but that hasn't happened in a while. But talking skip is another story, you can live in a hole, with a 20 foot high antron and talk skip with no problems. The ease of talking skip from a mobile proves that, its all mother nature, plus the angle the signal is coming in to your antenna. scrapiron |

He needs a 100 foot tower to get above the trees,all he can afford is 23' of tower with 20' of mast,I got a 40' mast.He's surrounded by state land in the U.P. of micigan and the lake is Lake Michigan ,he's at the second highest point in the middle of the penninsula,my home is in a valley 450' above sea level. |

Taz: I run a 3 element maco right now, have for the last 3 or 4 years, but have tried lots of beams over the years, up to the 32 ft. laser 400. I've got a shooting star in the barn now that I had up before this 3 element. At my location, I can't tell much difference, except the flat side was better for skip sometimes. I think the 3 element has better rejection on the backdoor than the dual polarized beams. And I gotta say the M103 is much better than other 3 elements I've tried. In this location, on the same tower, I've tested the 3 element Hygain, Hornet and Mosely, this was just for my curiosity, because when I first saw the design of the M103, I just didn't think it would work very well, its so different from the old designs. Was I ever fooled. I live in the foothills of the Ozarks, because of the little higher elevation, we have bad ice storms every year or so, not like they have in the north, this will fall as rain, the temp will be just cold enough for a heck of a build-up on trees and towers and antennas. It can really mess up the timber and big antennas. |

Shoot ive talked over 150 to 175 miles or better on AM and SSB at night when it is quiet. And all i use is a moonraker 4 and a ranger AR 3500 running 150 watts or so.......... |

at that distance from here there are mountains in the way. maybe 80-90 miles here before theres mountains cause were in a huger valley. The valley of the sun that is. |

OLD thread,new question does copper have something or can you get a unit so as to run two klv550s in parallel or say two klv1000s or two klv2000s,I'm really interested in this,they're splitters or diplexers or duplexers or some such term? |

The 1000P is the high drive(4 tuber) with the driver tube missing. For your rig you need to go with the KLV 1000 5 tuber. It is the low drive amp for regular radios that run about 3 watts AM and 25 watts SSB. The 1000P needs about 60 watts driven into it AM and about 125 watts driven into it on SSB to operate at full output. I run the 1000P behind of my Ranger AR 3500 100 watter and i get a little over 1KW AM and about the same SSB.... |
