I have been installing NGP antennas on fiberglass Cabs on some over the road tractors and trucks. The No-Ground ideal is good but I am finding a narrow bandwith. About 30 channels. Does anyone have any experience with these antennas. You can read about them at Firestick and Everhardt website. Maybe Tech 833 could help. His post indicate he may have so great antenna knowledge. I am not sure they really work. Transmit distance is limited, but SWR is below 1.5. Are these a waste of money? Opinions please.

Spoke to Everhardt tech today on this issue. He stated the antenna is really set up for 30 channels. Tuned around channel 10 because most people talk on 19 and want 9. I was unable to reach firestick. Any of you antenna guru's know anything. 833--307--181? |

The NGP antenna was designed to provide an adequate SWR match without ground plane available- not provide performance.
There is no way to get ANY RF efficiency from a no-ground antenna unless you use a 1/2 wave or longer element and no loading coils.
Even if you could provide some ground plane with conductive tape strips under the base of an antenna, you will gain performance over a NGP type antenna.
I have played with many NGP antennas myself over the years. The only ones that performed well were either center fed Franklin types or end fed 1/2 wave types mounted high off the ground (airborne) That's all. |

Thanks for the info. These antenna are not very good except for close range. But in a hurry can work for scale house and truck ahead/behind conversations. |
