A friend of mine just gave me a call on how to convert his new Alan 8001 and how to peak and tune it out. I've been looking all over the net and still haven't found anything. He's afraid to open it until he finds the conversion just in case. So I can't get a board number out of him.
Any information will be very helpful. |

If I'm not mistaken it's the 3600 board and a gussied up version of a 3900 SS. |

Someone on QRZ told him it was the EPT6900, but they said the changeover is different. Then 4 other people followed it up saying it can't be modded or no one has figured it out yet... thats why my buddy is afraid to break the seals, just in case he can't mod it. |

I went to Defpoms site before. They have the Alan 9001, but it has a different board (it's digital). Do I need to email Defpom personally?

The Alan 8001 should NOT need any modification. If it doesn't work, it is messed up to begin with. That's what I've heard, I don't have one.

Znut, this Alan is a 10 meter radio, like an unmodified Galaxy 88. Without modification he would be talking on 28 Mhz ONLY. We want to get the radio on 27 Mhz, hence the CB band.
Tech 671, I emailed Defpom and I'm now waiting for his response.

I contacted a dealer that has the Alan 8001. The following is a copy/paste from their email to me. I added the quotation marks.
"Mr. Francis the alan radios do not require a conversion they are ready to go."
Those European Midlands usually have AM/FM and all the channels off the shelf. The Alan 87 comes ready to go, but the 9001 used to require conversion (like TS 5010). The Lincolns come ready to go too. Probably depends on how they got into the U.S.
That said, I don't know myself. I would like to know more about the 8001. If you and your freind open it check to see if it has MRF 477 finals! Two of those babies would make the radio kick. Probably has 1969's like Triplecguy's 79-290 though. Anyhow, keep us posted.

I've heard that before too. He won't open it to see the board number either, can't look at the finals. No matter what the band selector is on, the frequency range is somewhere around 28.065-28.535. I think he's sending it back and exchanging it for something else. Pretty nice looking radio though.

I like that radio. I want to know more about the finals but I don't want to load those PDF's on my 33.6 modem. If anyone checks out the board, let us know.
