Just wondering if you can do the channel mod on the older Cobra 25 LTD and GTL radios. Looking for a couple to have for road trips. |

Most GTL's and LTD's , not all , use BCD/ROM (Read Only Memory) Ic's and can not be channeled without using a kit of some kind such as an Expo Kit. There was a quick way to get an extra few channels by changing the 10.240 reference crystal to a 10.270 or 10.210 however it worked but not the way it should.

307,The Expo kit is OK with me. Should I just Email you when I get the radios or is there a better radio for this you would rather use? |

I can remember 40 (and 23)-channel AM mobile radios that cost more than a Superstar 3900 at Copper's. More channels per dollar than I would have ever predicted. Makes the cost of a 'tricked out' AM mobile look kinda lame.

You got that right 2600, several 23 channel mobiles sold for about the same as the 100 watt exports, like the 2970 goes for today. The Tram Diamond 60, the Browning LTD, and the Cobra 132 were all in the 300-400 dollar range, and you almost had to pay dealer's retail, couldn't find them anywhere else. 23 channel Browning and Tram base stations were in the 700-800 dollar range. Makes these today a real bargain, huh. |
