on the microprocessor board, near the interconnecting pins you will find a 220uf electrolytic cap(its non-smt to make it easier). you can see it without taking the processor board out of the radio(look at processor board with spkr side of radio off). this should be your memory backup cap. |

220uF doesn't sound very big... Could a much larger value cap be used for longer duration of the memory? say a 0.2F??? |

sure could inspector. i just made a post at panther about using the the 'real' memory caps(like the ones used in vcr, etc circuits to keep clock time, etc) that you mentioned above in a 2510/lincoln to extend its memory. will work with the dx radios also. you'll just need to find a place to mount these bigger size caps. whoever designed the pres. george put this into their plans at the drawing board, since it comes stock with a 'real' memory cap. |

Seeing the same issue with an older 2950. Anyone know if this post applies to the older radios aswell? Radio was one of the first radios I bought and had the chance to acquire it again, installed it in my boat. |

Order radios- check 3V battery. Want long life, use a lithium battery. |

RW, is this battery located on the board behind the display? |

N3nfx, Yes the battery is just under the black piezo-buzzer if it is the 13Z board. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9CEF CVC#2 |

Thanks Lon, that's the one I had in mind. Kinda tough to visualize it and have it make sense. 73, Rob |

Found, replaced battery. Radio seemed to hold memory for about a week, now back to the same problem. Radio is installed in a boat with DC power to the electronics switched off when not in use, didn't think this would be an issue since the radio has a battery to keep these perameters, correct? What could be causing premature battery drain? |
