I want to enable talk back on my 2985DX and according to Ranger, all I have to do it remove D67. I can find D67 on their schematic but can not for the life of me find it on the board of the radio.

Can anyone tell me where and what to look for?

Thanks!

I never looked , but I would assume it is about 6" back and 1" from the left side on the main board.Clear Diode with red stripe OR Surface Mount Black Diode...Good luck..

Quackdaddy,

Look to the left of this message and go to the SEARCH then go to By Keyword, then type in D67.

This will take you to my post on d67 and follow the second post I sent in and it will show you where D67 is located.

It is NOT marked and very small(black) maybe 1/16 x 1/32

The way I found it is I called Ranger Tech and had radio opened and tech walked me thru it.

It is very small and the Ranger Tech Tips say to lift one end or remove.

Youw will find it is so small that when solder tip (VERY SMALL TIP/ the size of a sewing needle) hits it it comes completely out.

It will give you talkback but "Not a Loud" talkback.

Make sure you want to do this because if will be almost impossable to put back.

Below is a link to the Ranger Tech Site

http://www.rangerusa.com/techtips.html

Hope this will help you some.

Dx431,

Yes, it is a pain and like I said I used my Iso-tip with the smallest point and it is a lot of work. And very hard on the eyes.

But it does give a small degree of talkback to check mics.

Would I do it again?

No! not worth the work & time involved.

Just my thought's

Hmmmmmmm.....just had a thought...I use to have a small device that plugs into the speaker jack and the speaker plugs into this device and it turns any apeaker into talk back.It also had a volume knob. The cost, about $10.00 and about 30 seconds!

Hey, Dx431,
Your external talkback toy won't work with the Ranger base radio. It WILL work with any radio that LOSES ALL RECEIVE AUDIO when you unplug the mike. That's right, if the radio WILL receive with NO MIKE, this toy WON'T give you talkback.

If pulling the mike plug KILLS the receiver audio, it WILL give you talkback, like it was meant to.
