Has anyone had any luck with getting a good ground with these plastic Volvo's. We slip seat trucks daily so it's impossible to do a permanent mount. The people I talk to have tried everything and all kind of antennas and they still sound lik crap and have no range. Put the same radio, coax and antenna in a old truck and it works great.
Any luck?

Wilson Antenna's website has info regarding fiberglass bodies and "no-ground" antennas.

http://www.wilsonantenna.com/support.htm

There are also other resources regarding the problems with Volvos and CB antennas. Use your search engine to find out more.

Anonymous,
Used to drive one of thoes plastic trucks and what I did was ran a ground wire from the antenna bracket to the frame or other ground with a small but powerful alagator clamp and about 14 or 16 gauge wire. Worked worlds for me. Good Luck

My experience with the volvos is as has been stated. My answer to the problem [with good results] was to run a single, Wilson 2000, on 10" shaft at the farthest point away fron the cab on the passenger side mirror. Attach a 10ga. ground wire to the antenna mount bolt and attach the other end to the dash mount bolt under the right side of the dash.
If running slip seat you could attatch the wire to the base and a HD gator clip to the other end.
By mounting in this location you will utilize the ground plane across the hood toward the oncomming lane.
Hope this helps. Iron Mask

There was a post somewhere about hooking a wire to one of the hinges on the door with your ground plane wire, but only to the top hinge and not to the bottom hinge or something like that. But I also have heard really good things about wilsons no ground antennas. They are also supposedly very easy and fast to tune which could be a plus if you jump from one rig to another.
good luck

Firestick and Everhardt both have no-ground antennas. The Firestick is the better of the two and both give good descriptions on their websites. I have sold and installed both and like the firestick better but it is a little heaiver and sometime takes a beating if mounted on a mirror and truck is dirven in low limbs, such as dump trucks on back roads. best to mount on driver side. SWR is good and TX and RX fair, but on no ground chassis the radio is proteced from high SWR. The antenna and coax are matched so dont try and interchange. The Firestick is rated and will handle more power while the Everhardt will not really handle over 20- 40 watts.

Good luck
