Just bought this amp. It works. I did not test the tube but I know it's old,... currently, the amp does about 10Wdk swings to 65+W with 1.5W going into it. No pre-amp.
Here's my problem:
The receive cuts in and out, I can still hear it but the volume is lower. I jiggled the coax, on the antenna side, and the power cord and it cuts back in. I think there's a short somewhere or bad ground but cannot pinpoint it. It does this when I jiggled the Tune dial too. What's happening here? Where do I start?

Xlaxx, you might try cleaning the relays, be careful with'em though, don't bend'em or anything. |

Hi Scrap!
Hey- How and with what do I clean them with. Someone told me that a good trick is to cut a dollar bill and run it in between the contacts? What do you think?

Hey Xlaxx, lots of old timers use to use a dollar bill, just work it back and forth between the points on the relays. Because of inflation, you might have to use a five dollar bill now. lol, I'll email you on the browning pinger. |

Xlaxx, about the pinger, take the bottom off the receiver, right behind the "on the air" light, you will see a capacitor, probably a 15 or 20 mfd x 400. You can change it to a 50, 60, or 100 mfd to make a longer ping, I like about a 60, a 100 is pretty long. Just try till you get one to suit you. |

Thanks! I had heard you can use combinations and such but wasn't sure how to do the soldering. Are the multiple caps. soldered in series or parallel?

I haven't tried stacking the caps, but i've use two, a short and long. You can put a toggle switch on the rear panel of the radio, and switch between the two. |
