i want to paint my antenna dark green or black its an max 2000 will this hurt the antenna at all?..im going to paint it with spray paint. |

Not at all swamper.....I painted mine with clearcoat and my swr meter barley flinches all across the band.....Make sure the paint isnt metallic |

Auto primer is the best. Remember, the fiberglass still has some wax compound on the surface. You MUST remove all the surface wax before you paint, otherwise you will not get good coverage and the paint will flake off in short time.
To remove the surface wax, use laquer thinner (NOT acetone) and plenty of clean rags. Turn the rag over with each swipe along the antenna and use each rag only twice. For an Imax 2000, you should need about 10 rags.
Next, lightly scuff the fiberglass surface with steel wool and use your last rag to wipe the dust off the antenna.
Now, apply thin coats of primer, letting it dry in between coats. The coats should be thin enough that you still barely see white fiberglass slightly peeking through the second coat. You should reach full coverage by the fourth coat.
Follow these instructions, and you will never have to paint your antenna again. Also, you will be doing your antenna a service since your antenna will last longer if the fiberglass is not exposed to the elements. |
