Honkytonkman I am no TECH but I have drilled my truck out like a block of cheese and I agree with you the only way to go if you got LOTS of radios on board, very little bleedover into the other radios, well thats in my installation anyway.Any one want a radio report via SKIP give me an email:[hn3800@hotmail.com] to arange a time and frequency, only to happy to help, thats if the band is open. 73 Kiwi Kid, Downunder, South Pacificway. |

When I went from a Magnet mount Wilson 5000 to a Roof Mount 5000 and the SWRs dropped and the transmit increased noticably. Make sure the vehicle is a keeper though. |

I've got a dumb question but have to ask. Why does it make a difference? My thoughts and theory tell me it's grounding, grounding, and grounding, much better than what the magnet can attain. True? It is that simple or is there more to the story? Alsworld |

Gentlemen, even running alot of power, the hassles of trying to match below 1.5 most times aren't worth what little gain in output you get. |

Alsworld You answered your own question. Yes, grounding, grounding, grounding!!! NO ANTENNA SYSTEM WORKS BETTER THAN A "GROUNDED ANTENNA SYSTEM". Anyone that thinks otherwise, hasn't got a clue. If I owned a Rolls Royce, I wouldn't hesitate to drill a hole in the roof for a good grounded antenna mount. Why anyone would put good radio equipment in their vehicle and then use a ungrounded antenna system is beyond me. And AMEN to Gunship's post. Jeff, kc0gxz. |

Thanks Jeff. I was wondering if it was just that simple. Alsworld |

You can either pay the $3.00 for the hole plugs or $300-$350 to professionally repair the hole. |

An XM reciever and antenna may be cheaper than the repair and possibly increase the desirablity of the vehicle! hahaahhahahahaa |
