What is the differance in sweep tubes,vacum tubes,and electron tubes?Which ones are best,and can you tell by looking at them? |

Thanks bigbob I was starting to wonder if I may have stumped all of them!HA HA HA.I'll give it another day and do that.From what I've seen on the forum so far is if you don't get a response soon somebody reserches it and you get a very good response |

all tubes used in radios and amps are electron tubes and can be called vacuum tubes (very few are actually gas filled) and they manipulate the flow of electrons (the forerunners of transistors)with internal parts like filaments, cathodes, grids, and plates. Sweep tubes are electron tubes used in the horizontal sweep circuit in old televisions...they just happen to be good amplifiers and are used in older RF amp designs... |

That question is like asking the difference between a car, an automibile, and a motor vehicle.
Tubes do come in different varieties, such as the triode, tetrode, pentode, etc. These all refer to the number of grids within them. Then there are recitifer tubes, amplifier tubes, multiplier tubes, oscillator tubes, etc. It depends on the intended use of the tube.
Then, there are traveling wave tubes, pulse tubes, etc. depending on their use.
I suggest a web search to find the type you are seeking depending on your application. However, for most amplifier tubes, Econco and Eimac may be your best bet. |

I was just curious,I don't now any of the technical stuff about tubes,all I know is what kind I use and need,their hard to find and expensive.Thanks for the info.Stepchild |
