Anyone know a good setup for these trucks.
I have 51/2 foot Francis with the factory
co-phase harness.(New Coax Ends& Studs).
This Truck has terrible alternater noise
trough the radio. Will different antennas
change this. Also can i get by with 9-foot
coax,It shows good on the meter but everyone
around here is sticking with the 18-foot rule.
Just hate to have coax cramed everywhere.
P.S 98 KW /N-14 Cummins.

#1 ~ Replace the Factory Coax (JUNK)
#2 ~ DO NOT USE the FACTORY power connections for your radio as Everything in your dash and your on board computer uses the same power Source. (designed for 4 watt radios)
#3 ~ Run 10 Gauage wire DIRECT TO BATTERIES for POWER. (I ran wire thru hole with three layers of HEAT SHRINK to protect from short going thru floor. I drilled right under (Brake Pedal)
#4 ~ GROUND ANTENNAS DIRECT TO FRAME or DOOR BOLTS.
Keep EXT Speaker as far away as Possible, I mounted mine behind Driver seat at top of cab behind drivers door by shoulder harness bolt.
WORKED on our 2000 KW 800 & 2000 PETE 379.

Definately go to the frame.
Clean the area where the antenna studs go and replace the studs as well.
*Some* N14s have been known to have poor grounding in areas that produce alt noise and injector noise. It can be a hair puller to find and correct. |

Thanks For The Reply 808/671.
I learned today that i have a new truck on the
way. The boss man said it should be here in June.
So i will try these tips when it gets here. It is
also a T-600, but with a CAT so maybe it will be
different compaired to the N-14 injector problem.
Back to the 9-foot coax, Can i get by with this or
not.

Had my new ride for a few months now, it has been a real hair puller trying to get set up. The same setup on my 98 KW would not work on this 04 KW. (5.5 Francis).This week i bought 2 S-W 2000 Wilsons. Put the 1st one on and got a 1.2 (After Tuning). Put the 2nd one on and got it to 1.3 But after you tie them together it goes to 1.7 using a T-Connector. Forgot to mention replaced coax 9-Foot per side and new Stainless Studs. Should i just go with the 1 .2 single antenna. or is the T-connector causing problems. Does the co-phase harness work better than the 2 leads into the T-connector?

Yes,a co-phase harness is proper for best match,you could make your own with a T for greater power handling,but I don't remember the type of 75 ohm coax you would need for this. |

I used Grey mini-8 9 foot each side and i think most co-phase cable is 18 So maybe i will try to pick up one on the road next week. I am going to figure this out whatever it takes. I also bought a 6-foot SilverLoad Wilson and tryed it on the left side which tuned up good. Maybe it will outdo the 2000.It being top loaded put it up to 12.5 feet. I just think the higher the better.
