I have a Cobra 29wx/st/w/power mike, KL400 mobile amp mounted in a 2002 B3000 Mazda Truck. Everything is properly grounded. Frequently the radio will come on by itself and emit a loud squeal. This happens while driving and while stationary with no one in or near the truck. This occurs when the radio and amp is off. Will squeal for a few seconds. No matter what knob you turn or touch the squeal continues for a few seconds. Radio works fine under normal operating conditions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Bjrb,

Surprise, with the 29WX as long as the power cord is hooked up to the radio, it is a weather alert that is issued from the weather service.

It will sound a loud noise/squeal that means to turn your radio on to hear alert.

First time this happend to me was when I was parked & sleeping.

On 1st SARGANT's Texas Ranger 696F-SSB Base it does the same thing when a Weather Warning is Sounded by the Weather Service.

As long as it has power to the radio it WILL SOUND with the radio ON or OFF.

And like you said no matter what knob it will continue. Here in Central Illinois, hers goes off the First Tuesday of the month when they test the Air Raid Sirens and when ever there is a Severe Weather Alert.

Next time it does it go to your weather channels and listen to see what the alert is about.

NOTHING WRONG With Your RADIO!

It is doing what it was designed to do, WARN YOU of SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

And a Very nice FEATURE to have when travelling, camping or out fishing and bad weather is near.

Bjrb,

You are welcome, That alert will wake up anyone and scare the daylights out of you the first time it goes off.

Still laughing at the first time it went off about 3am with the 1st SARGANT.
