Hooked up a power mike to this new radio without checking. Now my 5watt deadkey is one quarter watt. What did I burn up. No laughing!

Sounds more to me like "infant mortality". The likeliest time for a radio to fail is when it is brand new, or when it is really old. Can't find a way to blame this on a power mike. If it's still this weak with the stock mike, I say it's a failure that would have happened anyway. If it's new, sounds like someone owes you warranty coverage.
