KLV!!!! Very well built "Strip Lined" layout (instead of the garage built junk type) and they work great!!!! |

I've heard something about different classes of amps, are these two the same class? Can you explain the classes?

I am putting something together to post about the calsses , however here is a quickie..
Class A is like running a car at 6000 RPM (100watts)
and popping the clutch when you need to tap
into the power. Very inefficient (also generates
lots of heat) but very high performance.
Class AB is like running a at 1 RPM
and Stepping on the gas to bring it up
to the needed RPM then popping the clutch.
Much more efficient. But not as high performance.
Class A-A/B is a compromise.
is like idling at 2000 RPM (10 watts 90%)
and transitions to Class AB above 10 watts. |

class c is just powerful!!! i run class c x-force and absolutely love it with my galaxy 66!! loud and proud. class c is only for am/fm transmitions but who wants to tune the sideband in a car anyway. if you want am power get a class c amp....x-force or davemade are very good choices!! |

whats the palomar 250?? a class c??? does that mean it can only be used on am/fm not SSB????? its the one i see on the nightly auction with 2 MRF455's ????????? |

class ab i think but not really in my opinion better than say the all famous texas star which seems to plain kick butt. watch out they changed the pills from 2879 to 1446. stick with texas star you wont be disapointed. good luck |

i am looking at the klv550 it says 300/600 do you know what am dead key to swing is and comparied to the boomer500 300rms 450pep dead key 300?price is better on the klv ? thanks guys |

I was wondering what the differences are between the palomar 225 and the palomar 250....The Copper website says they both have 2 mrf455 pills, so what accounts for the difference in power output? Is it the biasing? |

Look up my review of the KLV 550 under "Product Reviews/Amplifiers/KLV 550" dated 09-09-01. I have a couple of posts there and I did some comparison testing of input v.s. output wattages for my Cobra 2000 GTL and Uniden Washington. I used a Dosey Test Center TC4001 for all results and I recorded the approximate dead key wattages and swing wattages on AM and the peak readings on SSB for each of the six power levels on the KLV 550 for each radio.
