I have a road runner roger beep and I was trying to wire it in a project box I made the box has different mic sockets in it so I could use different mics on my galaxy 44 and I wired the roger beep to the 4 pin socket and it worked when it was suppose to but it was like it was over modulating and squealing when I had the talk back off what can I do to stop it! could I wire it to the main cord that all my mic sockets go to and it work also the same as I got it wired to one!

With several of the toys that are out there just hooking them up to a mic or mic connector in a box will not allow them to work.

They have to be hooked up directly inside the radio you are useing.

A good example I have run into is with some of the Galaxy Bases you have to hook directly to the center pin of the Mic Gain control to have them work. I tried hooking them up per instruction's and NO LUCK! (A BIG Thanks! to 307 for this tip) I was going nuts trying to figure it out.

Putting a Beep or other sound accessory inside the metal radio case provides shielding. Stray RF power from your transmitter will usually penetrate external stuff like a roger beep or echo, unless you go to a lot of trouble to shield and filter it. The power to run your toy is another "back door" for stray RF in the room. The power that you tap in the radio is already filtered somewhat, depending on where you tap in.

Either way, stray RF that leaks into the amplifier in a power mike, or into an external beep or echo gets turned back into audio, like it does inside the next-door neighbor's $10 Walgreens phone. Once that happens, you get feedback squeal noises, as if the talkback were too loud.

This is not to say that a squeal-free external noise toy is impossible, just a LOT more trouble than the normal internal hookup. More trouble than it's worth, probably.
