I know they cancell out background noise for noisy environments which is important. But, stock mics seem pretty resistant to picking up background audio as well but they sound very muddy. Never had a noise cancelling mic. Always chucked the stock one in a drawer and got a power mic. Do noise cancelling mics like the 636 and Road Devil improve the sound of your voice over stock? Crisper? Anything? Or are they just stocky sounding mics resistant to ambient noise?

Yes they do make your voice crisper. So does the roadking.
