Hello I just installed a Galaxy 949 in a trailer for a mobile base station. The cb is mounted to a wooden cabinet and plugs into the 12v wall socket for power. I have a Wilson 4' flex 5/8 wave/200 watt antenna (silver). QUESTION: DO I NEED TO GROUND THE RADIO TO THE TRAILER CHASSIS TO CREATE A GROUND PLANE? THE ANTENNA HAS A GROUND LEAD COMING FROM IT. SHOULD I CONNECT THIS LEAD TO GROUND OR LEAVE IT DISCONNECTED? DOES THE RADIO AND THE ANTENNA LEAD NEED TO BE GROUNDED? |

Hi Keith , Mosty likely it will work just fine if it is a metal trailer. If it is fiberglass you are most likely going to have more than just a ground wire problem. Which is it? |

I have my Galaxy 949 working fine now. I am looking for a long range radio now. What is the range of a 10 meter radio? What is involved in getting a HAM radio license? Do you need a license to operate a 10 meter radio? Ken |

The fastest way to get your ham license is to study the test at qrz.com for about 2 weeks , then take the test at a local ham meeting in your area. It is a snap...As for range , a 10 meter radio is about the exact same as an 11 meter radio , go 2 meter or 70cm for range using a repeater. |
