I have a connex 4800DXL that is swinging backward when modulated. Is this normal? It also transmits on a different frequency than it receives on IE if the freq counter says 27.1850 on receive...when I key up it says 27.1857.... is this normal? Should I have it retuned or re-aligned? Or both? Thanks so much for your help! 73's |

Okieoutlaw, did you buy the radio new and have a reputable tech do the mods? If so, I would return it.
Just my thoughts.......

As long as the Factory Seal is intact / not broken or removed, so is your warranty on it.
Post a note to the Customer Service Area about the problem's you are having or call Customer Service at: 1-502-988-8500, and they should be able to help you.

the Connex 4800 has 2 clarifiers...Course and Fine.
The Fine clarifier is just like a RIT...Receive incremental tuning. It affects only the received signal, and the freq counter is displaying that frequency when you are receiving.
The Course clarifier affects both transmit and receive, and the freq counter display shows your transmitted freq when you key up.
I guess they still have the detent in the Course clarifier, making it hard to keep the radio on freq, if it is just outside of the "notch".
The best thing would be to try to get the radio aligned on frequency, then use the fine clarifier to tune in those signals which are off freq.
There is a mod which opens the Fine clarifier, that will allow it to track on TX/RX, as well.
As for the backwards swing, I think that is an indication that the deadkey wattage may be too high.
Those radios will put out quite a bit of power, if set up properly. |

thanks for the input.... I am familiar with the radio. The main thing is on sideband/freeband you want to be transmitting on the same freq as you are receiving on. I have the course in the notch and with it in rcv mode it will read "xx.xxx.0" and in tx "xx.xxx.7 . If one of my group is monitoring the ".0" freq and I am tx'ing on the .7 freq they aren't going to hear anything but a high pitched whine! I have bought a lot of equipment from Copper in the last 10 years and have always had a good experience,but, I have never had them do any tuneup or mod work before. 73's cm4382 27.535.0 lsb (when I can get there) |
