OK, I think I have it on the antenna selection, location and coax length. Now, about proper grounding. 1st, the antenna. I assume if I decide to use a hood mount bolted to the fender rail under the hood, it will be properly grounded? The radio: Hot wire goes directly to + terminal on battery, ground goes to nearest grounding point on frame - using 8 to 10 ga. wire? Is this about right? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP THUS FAR!!! MikeB |

Never put the "-" to the frame , ALWAYS go direct to the "-" on the battery. 8 guage is perfect. As for the hood ground , no problem. |

Because it will cause a ground loop. Ground loops pick up noise which drowns out the receive on weak stations. The ground loop is caused by the return power (negative) either shorter from the antenna ground back to the CB or the car chassis return to the battery is shorter. This creates a differential. That is what you want to stay away from. |
