I bought an old realistic moblie at a flea market for a few bucks.Its a 448 with sideband the radio is dead i was wondering what would be bad inside the radio to make it not turn on?..someone told me its not the finals cause if it was the finals the lights would light up.Do you know what most likly would be causing the radio not to power up?I opened it up there are no lose wires and nothing is burnt looking. |

Follow the red and black wires from the power plug to where they are soldered to the board. In that vacinity, you will see a black colored barrel-shaped diode.
This diode is called a "Polarity Inversion Protection Diode". It's purpose is to protect the radio in the event of the positive and negative wires getting hooked up backwards.
Chances are, this diode is blown. And if so, the radio will not power up. Just remove this diode and replace it. It's a very common diode that can be found at any Radio Shack.
