It is hard to tell looking at the poor pics on all the different web sites, but it looks like the non echo 4800DXL may have variable power ? and the 4800DXL w/echo does not from what I can see anyway. Could you please clear this one up for us. I would rather have the variable power over the echo anyway... Thanks |

After digging around somemore, it looks like both have a HI/LOW power switch and the non echo version has the SWR Cal where the controls for echo are in the echo version. I also hear the echo version is a completely different board. The non echo is like the old 148 style board, and the echo model is the same as the new RCI 6900. Can I get this comfirmed ? Thanks |

Well I have a 4800DXL and the ONLY hi/low switch is for the BANDS because it has 12 bands there is no Hi/Low power switch any where I have been told it has one but mine doesn't and also the "pot" to turn for the "HI" power setting is not on the pc board. |

I had one of the older non-echo ones and it did not have stock variable power. I had it installed in the swr cal. knob. Also, do yourself a favor if you already haven't already done it.
1. install an sp1-a speech processor
2. install a channel guard kit in it
3. do the recieve mods
4. upgrade the af amp and driver
It make an UNBELIEVEABLE difference in the radio. Good luck. |
