hello this is to anyone. i have a amplifier that is designed for ssb and am use. sometimes i will forget to switch it from ssb when i use it on am . i notice this immediatley and do switch it to am . and the same for am ,i will start to talk then quickly unkey the microphone and switch it to am. my question is will it harm the amp or the radio if i forget to switch the amp in the right mode. example- am for talking on am and ssb for talking on ssb. i think it is okay its just the amp will not work cause it wont know what mode you are in . like i said i have noticed this each time as soon as i begin to talk and quickly change it to the correct setting. i would like to know if anyone can answer this question for me . thank you very much. scott

It wont hurt the amp or the radio. It will also work either way. The ssb switch turns on a delay to keep it keyed in between words since SSB has no carier to keep it keyed..it just keeps the relay from wearing out faster. 73's

thank you very much jyd and hook for your help . i wasn't sure so i am glad that you guys helped me out on this. also this is to you guys if you have a beam attenna or know of someone who does. or any one who does have one. i have the chance to buy a beam , looks like a pdl 2. it looks okay except the wire that is on the out side of the radial tips. what is that wire used for.? and do i need it on there? it has the wire on both ends except one end the wire is broke and just dangling in the wind. i think its a gamma match wire or rejection wire. not sure. if i do need it can i just get any type of copper wire and re string it around the tips of the radials. thanks in advance for ansering if you or anyone does. scott
