About once a year I have the bridge rectifiers blow in my big box.Could it be caused by something I am doing or is this the normal life span of them?

sounds strange i have many power supplys that use them no problems at all almost sounds like they are underrated for PIV or surge current the realy old ones sealumn ( medal oxide ) were unstable and had large voltage drops but i havent seen one in 30 years. see if you can find one with slightly higher ratings i like to see if that is it

My bridge rectifiers are over 20 years old and formerly saw broadcast use 24/7. You may be drawing too much current for them to handle. If the diodes are 1 amp types and you draw more than 1 amp through them, WHAMMO!

Either that or maybe a transient is hitting them. Does the whole stack blow at once or does one diode at a time short out? You may have to put some transient caps across the individual diodes to take the transients off of them.

$65 a year which is an unnecessary expense...
