I just purchased a Polamar250 but don't know how to get it to work right. I used a heavy wire for power about three feet long. Ground wire is the same(should ground wire be lighter). I used a three foot long coax jumper to my vr9000 and a long coax to a wilson 2000. I just get a loud squeal when I key up. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

do you have talk back that could be the problem turn the mike gain down and see if that helps, also my 250 is hooked straight to the battery with 10 gage hot and ground.

Jyd. Thanks for the info. I turned the talk back off. Same thing still happens. The vr9000 has no mike gain control.

IN CASE this helps, here's what I found in my experience.Rooftop antennas are best.Trunk mounts etc.radiate thru glass, long mike cords espesialy in multiples of 6 feet can rectify RF and cause feed-back squeel.

Thanks Bigbob. I'm using a mirror mount antenna. It's on a truck with aluminum doors and a metal piano type hinge. It's on the passenger side and is a little rusty from lack of use. I think it may have a poor ground to the rest of the vehicle.

Hello, I am considering purchasing a PALOMAR 250 Mobile Amplifier but I see it states 1-4 watts in. If I have my radio at peaked at 20 watts out is thisz going to cause a problem? Should I be adjusting my output power down to 4 watts??

20watts out is ok,you just need a 1to2 1/2 watt dead key.

BIGMARK,you don't need a DC ground path for your ant. to work.Infact you could insulate the clamp with 1/4 inch rubber gasket and still get low swr with minimal adjustment.A good clean ground helps eliminate static build up on antenna. When I said etc.I meant everything below roofline including mirror mounts.
