ok i have had this radio for about 2 yrs at least and i love it to death the big meter is great for my 4 eyes and the freq counter built in is good too...anyway
about a week ago i am sitting at a red light and had the radio on and all of the sudden the recieve cut right out so i look down at the radio and the channel selector is on 31 the band selector is on band d and the freq counter is running all over the place like a darn police scanner down to 24.xxx and up to 28.xxx then to 26.xxx and at any given pooint in time it will just go right back to the correct freq ,it will take off running while i am keyed up talking,it doesnt matter warm or cold
when this is happening the band selector doesnt seem to help the clarifier does its job and the channel selector causes a change to happen
i was told by the guy who used to do all my repairs(but got out of it because he is getting old and hard of seeing)that it seems like some capacitor that has to do with it staying on frequency is on its way out
its sick man and i dont like that
hey 307 or anybody for that matter help please
by the way i posted in the general forum looking for a repair shop to tackle this witihin say 50 miles of utica n.y.(just for the record just after i bought it new i had the modj turned up and modified for 11meters and also had a sound module installed by a person local that always did good work for me) |

it sounds like a bad solder connectin in the pll/vco area. very common problem with these radios and will give the symptoms you described. resoldering this area will fix the problem -if- it is a cold solder connection. could be other possibilities, but this is the most common. |

thanks for the reply, i will tell you now i am an idiot when it comes to this i cant tell a capacacitor from a resistor and a diode from a transistor,so give it to me straight doc can you hook me up with a diagram showing exactly where to look for the bad connection(i can solder good so long as it is not in too confined of a space wherer i can barely get the tip of my iron)
hope you can help me if it is a simple fix |

there is no -one- component to look for. this 'common problem' that i am talking about is an entire area. it is around a shield at the front right hand area of pcb(bottom side) you need to resolder the entire area. you may even have to pull that shield off. if you do, make sure you mark where to put it back. i use a marker for this. |

took the radio to the truckstop in fultonville,and it turned out to be a cold solder on the ground for something,and also another cold solder on something else |
