Couldn't Cal. Antenna, SWR way off scale (in the red), Checked coax line to antenna with ohm meter and it showed a short unhooked the coax from antenna and the ohm meter shows it to be good(the coax) checked the antenna base and center pin connection with the ohm meter and it goes way off scale (in the red). Is this antenna bad or what?

Unless you are using a digital meter with 6 didgets you will see continunety [sp]. The amount of connection is what counts.
I would suggest adding a new or proven good coax to the antenna and recheck it with an external SWR meter. When I say external I am reffering to a meter other than the one in the radio.
What type of antenna and what application.
Fill in the blanks and I am sure you will get the answers. Iron Mask

some antennas will show a short try this get 2 100 ohm resistors ( 1/2 watt ) parlell them up and hook them across the antenna end of the coax USE VERY SHORT TRANSMISSIONS or they will fry ... your swr meter should read low under 1.5/1 if it dosnt you got a bad coax..... if the reading is under 1.5/1 the coax is good and your antenna needs to be looked at it might not be tuned correctly

Thanks guys...Ironmask, the antenna is a Bandit Base type w/mini 8/u connection.

Bruce, I'll give your info. a try and see what happens.

Things seemed to be fine until last Sunday's Radio Net, we had some hard winds here and the antenna was bowed over pretty good, that's when Cal./SWR went south on me.

Hi Team,Stiches some antennas will show a DC short to ground and others will not as that is how they are electrically engineered.Check the specifications of your antenna as you may have a DC to ground shunt on yours.
