Just wondering the freq. range of the SS3900 after mods ? Also how much range do you get from the clarifier after it is opened ?

TheMerc,

I believe the freq range goes from 25.615 - 28.305.

The clarifier? Probably 3 KHz each way. Unless you plan on connecting a freq counter to the radio, I wouldn't open the clarifier. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Thats not good. You give up a good part of the Novice phone band 28.300-28.500 to get the CB channels. I wonder if you can shift the range a bit ? I wouldn't even want it to go below ch.1

THEIR IS A SUPERSTAR 3900 HIGHER CHANNEL MOD, I'LL PRINT WHAT I HAVE HERE:
FIND IC7 NEAR THE PLL CHIP.
GET SPST SWITCH AND MOUNT IN RADIO.
SOLDER A WIRE FROM ONE SIDE OF THE SWITCH TO PIN #13.
SOLDER ANOTHER WIRE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SWITCH AND RUN IT TO PIN#12.
THATS IT PUT THE RADIO IN BAND D AND FLIP THE SWITCH FOR COVERAGE FROM 28.300 TO 28.500.
THIS SHOULD HELP! CHRIS

There you go. I believe Band "D" is where you need to tune to to get those freqs once the mod is done. Is believe one position of the switch gives you 28.3 - 28.5 and the other position gives you CB.

Thanks Steve and Chris,
Sounds like this rig has potential. I was wondering if Copper sells the HP High Power version of this radio ? I asked the question in the customer service area of the forum. I am just curious at this point, and thinking of another rig on a budget...
