Does the VR9000 not have a RF Gain or Mic Gain control ? That would be too bad for a SSB radio. If this is true, that SS3900 is looking better all the time. I guess you trade features to have others...

There is a RF gain but no mike gain.

No, the VR9000 does not have either a mic gain or an RF gain (although it DOES have variable RF output control!).

Yeah, you're right! Depends upon what you want in your radio. I admit that an RF gain control would be nice to reduce those (sometimes) overpowered big rigs on I-95 that I encounter on the way to and from work every day, but I don't miss the mic gain. I've found that the Astatic 575M6 power mic that I'm using works very well on the VR9000 and I can control audio gain AND tone with this mic. Others, like Vernonott, feel that the stock mic on the VR9000 is fine by itself.

My opinion is that the VR9000 is about as good as it gets for the price!!
