I just put a KLV 200V into service. The output on SSB does not come close to specs. claimed by the manufacturer. With 20 W PEP drive Im only getting 120 W PEP out. They claim 160-200. Oh well it sounds good anyway. The AM operation is fine, and meets the claimed output of 80-100 W Peak with less than 10 W drive. Is there any history of this performance issue that you could tell me about ? Many thanks... |

Tell me exactly what the voltage is on transmit at the Battery (within on inch) AND then at the Amp (within one inch). You must be at full output power when you take the two measurements. If you have over "1" volt drop at the Amp , there is where the missing power is...Also , If you ground to the body of the car for negative , you will loose alot...go straight to the battery for red and black... |

Feel lucky that you can get 120W PEP out of it. One EL509 is not going to get you to 200 W PEP no matter how hard you drive it.

A true peak reading can't be seen on an analog meter only an average.On a scope you may see peaks as high as 500 but extremely few.On an analog meter you are looking at the avg.of several hundred peaks. |
