I am currently thinking about buying a new mobile set up for my truck (p/up). I was wondering your opinion on this. Im thinking, a galaxy 959, into a texas star 667, into a 102 inch whippy mounted on a ball and spring mount. Wondering what you think, should I tune the radio up or just leave it (dare I say) stock. I guess what I really need to know, what would be best for the 667. Any help or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Carrier to 1.5-2.5w
Maybe the 667v requires a higher
deadkey......so maybe 3-4w would
be ok for the 667v.....

Lvlooney,
The Galaxy 959 and a 102" whip make a good combination. That's what I have on my Jeep. The combo gets good reports. My whip does not have a ball mount or spring. I made a custom bracket out of aluminum to mount the antenna to the body, attached inside behind the hatch. The mount is a 3/8x 24 stud and a quick disconnect. SWR is real low and pretty flat. The bottom of the antenna is just above the rear bumper height but sits about 9" behind the body (gives me enough room to open the hatch without removing the antenna). The radio was peaked by Copper when I bought it, but otherwise is stock on the transmit side. I recently did a couple of receive side mods and added a channel guard. Like I said. It seems to work pretty well.
Good luck with your installation.

DX431 is correct 1.5 to 2.5,that driver definitely does not like over 4 watts and even 4 will heat it up pretty good.Considering 4 in will give 80 out,the 4 2879s are only rated 10 watts in each MAX,soooo, keep'er down to 2.5 and the amp will thank you with many years of service.

In my opinion, the 102 (and spring) is the only way to go for mobile antennas. Also, the Astatic 575M6 microphone complements that radios audio very nicely. It appears though "This Item Has Been Discontinued By Astatic".

Thank everybody for the input. I had a 667 in my truck b4 but it decided to let out all its magic smoke and wouldnt work anymore. So I am going with the 959 and the 667 into the whip. unless anybody can tell me another 10 meter radio that would work with the same set up ie a galaxy 88, or 99. thanx again.
