Was wondering all your opinions on the Mirage 88?
Is this a good radio? Is it equal to the Galaxy?
Any info would be much appreciated.

You ought to check out the Voyage VR-9000 here at Copper. Same PC board as the Galaxy and Mirage 88, slightly different features, but far less $$. But none of those 3 would be my first choice--I'd much rather have a Magnum 257 or Omega Force. |

There is no comparison. As great a radio as the Grant is, it is STILL a CB. The 88 that you are refering to is a 10 Meter radio with twice the power capabilities and with far more audio.
It all boils down to what you want in a radio. Are you strickly an A-Mer? If so, then don't pay the extra money on a radio with SSB. Having SSB in a radio doesn't make it a "better" radio. It just gives you another mode to use.
Do you want a lot of frequencies to play with? If so, then a 10 Meter radio is the way to go.
Let us know what your priorities are and then maybe we can help you with some suggestions.

My dillema is this. I have both radios already ( the Uniden Grant LT and the Mirage 88). I am going to sell one of them but just cannot decide on which one to sell. If you were looking strictly AM and SSB comparing head to head will the Mirage be the better performer bearing in mind the units were already purchased?
I have been swapping back and forth in my car trying to decide. I am running this with a Wilson 1000 trunk mount antenna.
Anxiously waiting all replies.

The Grant has a tighter and quieter receiver. But the 88 will outtalk the Grant on both AM and SSB since the 88 is equipped with dual finals and the Grant having only one. That extra final makes all the difference in the would when set up correctly.
Personally, I would opt for the 88 since it is a far more versitable radio with far more capabilities than the Grant will EVER have. But, they're your radios and your choice.
