All,

Is it normal for daytime noise levels to be almost on the red line on the meter? It also only happens this bad on ch 19 AM.

I have both a Uniden Grant LT and a Mirage 88 with a Wilson 1000 trunk mount, and both radios exhibit the same noise levels. All is grounded properly and SWR is 1.2. I can get out no problem but recieving is a problem with the noise level. I am wondering if this is normal or is there a mod availiable to control this.

When the cbers are close they come in loud and clear but seems like my audio gets out farther then I can recieve as I hear people replying to my radio checks but I can barley hear them thru the noise. Again the close radio checks come in loud and clear.

Thanks for any help or explaniation

As you surely know, channel 19 is the most popular channel on the CB. Probably 10 times as many people use 19 as any other channel. If there are even minor skip conditions it will show up on 19 because you have multiplied stations all over the states talking at the same time. It's a rare moment when 19 is completely silent. There is nothing wrong with your radio.

Charliec, this is the channel that people who travel, use all the time, from truck drivers to sales people like me. I use it a lot, not for smokey reports, but more for what is up in front of me, or just general conversation. I still talk a lot on my ssb 38, but nothing like getting hung out to dry and sit on interstate 2 1/2 hours, because I was on another channel. And that was one mile from my exit! The skip can carry the signals all over the place. But when you have thousands of people talking at same time all over America, you will get the louder noise level. Hope this helps explain this for you.
