HONKY TONK MAN 593 OUTTA NC!!

OK I SEEN ON A SITE THAT THE NEW 2950DX CAN GO FROM 21-29.999MHZ OR YOU CAN HAVE IT GO FROM 24-32. IS THIS TRUE?? BASICALLY IT SAYS TO PUT IN THE EXPANSION JUMPER THEN SOLDER 2 PINS TOGETHER AND THEN IT GOES FROM 21-29... ANYONE TRY IT AS I WANT TO GET A RANGER 2950DX AND DO THIS. THANK YOU SORRY IN ALL CAPS FINISHED TYPING BEFORE RELIZED IT. |

Why would you want 21 meg unless you are a ham? Even then i doubt the radio will pull that far without some kind of problem |

actually i am a ham operator bruce...why do you always start stuff?? maybe other people are hams too! there are the usual familiar pins on the display. behind the swr key on display. 4 pin jumper ...add a jumper to center most 2 pins the two nearest the capacitor. do all this with your radio off!! then when mod is done turn back on and new frequencies will be there. you will now tx/rx from 21mhz - 29.6999 mhz. hey good luck. |

First i dont have to start it follows me. I asked because while i still had one of the 2950dx's i asked about this converson and was told in no uncertin terms BY THE PEOPLE SELLING THE KIT it would not work well at 21 mhz. You are asking the radio to cover 10 mhz a lot at hf another reason i qustion the usefullness of this mod but if you got it to work and did not degrade the radio fine. I gave up on rangers at best they are ok on 10 meters and went to a alinco DX-70 all bands all modes no bull 100 watts tossed a multiband stick on the car and worked the world. SEE ya on 29.6 fm 3:30 est weekdays. |

I gotta jump in on this one. Yes the mod works, do it just as described above. I added a switch to keep mine working on 32 MHz also, but you have to turn the radio off to flip the switch. The only drawback is you lose your programed memory channels. I noticed no real loss in power. Just make sure you have a good antenna that will tune down to the new freq.
As for the ham ticket, I personally think listening to ham freq.s incourages people to get thier ham ticket. It did for me, so don't shun off converting radios.
And Bruce, you are comparing apples to oranges when you knock Rangers to compare them to an Alinco. Ham gear is the best, but come on, Ham stuff costs way more than a modified export radio to doesn't it? I know I'm a ham too, but still a CB'er. CB is where my roots are, ham is just a hobby, CB is life.
Oh and I don't think your a troublemaker Bruce, that's my job.

I like a good roundtable the problem is unlike han radios " export " radios are built with little care and use of the cheapest parts they can find. As for cost my dx-70 ran $550 it covers 100khz-54 mhz transmits on 160-6 meters all modes has many things it can do that no export set can do and meets all fcc requirements. Dont get me wrong i experimented with the reciver on the ranger added BOTH filters changed the normaly changed parts to see if the problems i was having would go away they did not. I was a so-so radio on all modes but fm and it stinks on that mode. By the time i was done i had 300 bucks in it and most of the time it sits in a box THe alinco was plug and play and by the way it is my mobile i use a ft-840 as a base another nice radio summing up the ranger works i use one on 50 mhz now it works fine a nice little box but i like fm on 10 and the 2950 realy needs a beter frontend it is clobbered by out of band stuff and the limmiting is regency stuff at best and everything i did help but nothing cured it to the point that it worked as well as i needed o by the way i also have a alinco 10 meter fm unit that is 5 TIMES as good as the 2950 on recive breaking squelch at .18UV best i did on the ranger was .5

Skullman, you're absolutely correct on the freq-mod. I have had this in my 2950DX for a couple months and it is great (I love the reception of international shortwave)....Everybody poo-poos the RCI rigs, but in the end, they still are the most sold multi-mode tranceiver in history! (I frankly wouldn't want my SQ breaking at .18uV...I want hysterisis in my SQ circuit)...;-)just funning with ya...loosen-up |

Yes I did the mod and it works great. Easyist mod I have ever done. I did notice a small loss of power. |
