i suppose it has to do with a polarity diode, im pretty handy with a soldering iron just not sure which one is the one that is bad Please direct me in the right direction, would love to have this radio back in the mobile and my galaxy 88 being a base again, Thanks

Chris,
A little more information would be nice.....When you say the radio will not power up, do you mean to say it blows fuses?? If it's blowing fuses, a possible cause was that it got hooked up with reverse polarity of the power, red to black, black to red. This will blow the protection diode, that's what it's in there for. When you connect the power leads backwards, it forward biases the diode to ground and blows the fuse. It CAN take out the diode too. If you replace the fuse and it blows again, probably the diode is bad.
Open the radio, look where the power connector is wired to the PCB. Look for a black diode ( it has a band on one end)with marking like 1n4003, or 1N4005 (the higher the number, the higher the current rating of the diode). Replace the diode with one of the same number OR higher. Be sure you install the diode pointing in the same direction as the original.
You CAN just clip one side of the diode, BUT , your radio will not have ANY reverse polarity protection. If you hookup the radio backwards again, it will be toast.

The protection diode is usually right beside where the main power wire goes into the circuit board. |

Ok Thanks Guys it was always hooked up right that is to my knowledge. Yes that is the problem shell pop every dang fuse lol you could stick in it, I had a RCI once and like a fool got rid of it thinking the worse and all that was wrong was the Diode was popped Thanks Guys |
