Hi there,
I have a recent Ford Explorer 4 door and want to mount my 706 in it. Big problem is running power from battery to behind back seat for main unit. (will use remote kit on dash). Man, I have looked at trying to find a hole in fire wall to feed power leads though (8 gauge) and it is impossible! absolutely not an access area and as tight as a submarine!! Any one got around this, do I need to drill a hole?? (don't want to and xyl will kill me!). Any help appreciated.

Andrew,
Have you considered going to the rear of the vehicle?
I am asking, because you could go down under through the spare tire area and then run along the frame up to the battery. With 8ga. wire I wouldn't think the voltage drop with that length would hurt.
You mentioned, the main unit would be under the rear seat. That would give very little added length over going straight forward through the fire wall.
Just my 1 1/2 cents worth. Hope this gives an idea to try. Iron Mask |

I WILL LOOK INTO THAT OPTION...MMMM IT COULD WORK!! I appreciate your reply, hopefully some Explorer owners will add their 2 cents worth as well (I hope so at least!)

Depending on the year, there should be some grommets in the firewall you can remove. I've never seen an Explorer without a grommet, and I've seen a lot of them! I installed car stereos for 5 years or so.....There should be one to the passengers side of the brake booster, or underneith it....get in the driver's floor board, and pull the carpet back, you should find a grommet there, or under the insulation.
If you are anywhere near me, I can drill a hole if you want one...
