Ok I have a friend that his father has an old military truck.
As we all know that most military trucks are on a 24 volt system he asked me if he would to install a radio (cb) in it would it damage the radio being a 24 volt system.
I said I would check with the best place thats on the internet today.
Thank you cef#189 Len

If it is indeed a 24 volt system you will need a converter from 24v to 12V. 24V will fry a radio

Leonard,

The truck will have either 4 six volt batteries or 2 twelve volt batteries.
Either way can work.
If it has 2 twelves you can run your leads to one twelve volt battery and not cause a problem. If it has 4 six volt batteries you can hook it up to a pair of sixes provided they are in series.
To help answer your question I need to know if it has a 12 volt lighting system and 24 volt starting system. Depending on the age of the unit, the earlier ones 50's 60' had all systems 24 volt the later ones had a split system.
If you hook it to the 24 volt system direct it will damage the radio. If you can hook it a 12 volt source that would not need to have a converter and the batteries will help filter out a lot of ignition nois the truck will produce.
Now the question is, is it gas or diesel. Either way the electrical noised produced will be eliminated through battery filtering.
Hope this helps a little. 73's Iron Mask

Thank you Ironmask I will check into it my next day of work and post it then.
Yes every thing does help.
When I was in the guard back in the mid 80's I always put a radio my semi but they had a seperate hook up for radios in the cab of the truck just like on a power supply.
Again I do Thank you.
73's Len
