Lon,
I have a RCI-6900F150. It is capible of about 50 watts dead key. I need 30 watts dead key to dive a amp I have; can the RF power be turned up to this with the dial at min.? I want to do this so that I will always know where to set the power as to not overdrive the amp by accident.
Can I do this without voiding copper warranty and which pot do I adjust?
Thanks, CEF#312

New update. Amp came in after I wrote previous post. It's a Sweet sixteen Texastar. Looking at the amp it says max drive 30 watts. With only 4 watts drive it dead keys 700 watts and swings about 1100. Now I need to turn radio down to get about 300 dead key. Same questions?
Also when I key amp the fans go off. Any suggestions.
Thanks, Sam

I was reading this post and was really confused. You have a 6900F150 radio wich is capable of doing up to 150 watts of swing. You can turn the varible on the radio down to whatever you want and still swing almost 150 watts. Now for the sweet sixteen, that can take up to 150 watts swing input so your 6900 should drive it just fine.Usually out of the box it does about 40 watts and 100 swing. I dont know how you got 700 dead key from it with only 4 watts in since it does not have a built in driver. You may have to retune the 6900 slightly to acheave the wattage you want on dead key. Just check it with a meter while turning the varible on the front of the radio. You might find it is set up fine.

Thunderbolt, Not real sure what happened. Anyway, short story, 6900 is now inside and 88 is in truck. I added a modulator before sweet sixteen. Set deadkey out of modulator at 30 watts. Got 100 deadkey out of sweet sixteen with a swing of around 1300 watts. Not enough deadkey out of sweet sixteen, so I turned the modulator up to bring deadkey to 400 watts. Everything seems to work fine now. A tech I know said that what you put in was not definatly exact as long as deadkey was around 25-30% of what the swing was.
Do you think I'm o.k.?

that tech is correct. you really don't want more than 350w carrier out of the sweet 16.

as for the fan, you can put small ferrite chokes on the dc lines to the fan or 22uh chokes in the lines.
