I would like to wire a Turner hand mike to this radio. The stock mic and turner mike dont have same colors so Im lost. Turner has red,black,white,
and shield. Can you could tell me how to turn up the watts step by step? Ive never worked on a radio before.Thanks |

Sorry I cannot be of much help on the Mic Wiring on this Model as all I know is that it is a 4 Pin Mic on it and cannot find any other information on the Mic Wiring.
For Tune-Up you will need a WATT METER.
AM POWER ~ ADJUST: T7, T8, T9 and L11 for MAXIMUM FORWARD SWING on the WATT METER.
MODULATION ~ ADJUST: VR3
If you have never worked on one before I suggest you have someone do this as it can get tricky.
ALways REMEMBER that any information that you read on the Copper Forum, for Modification's or Tune-Up's you try at your Own Risk.

Here's how you can figure out mic wiring on your own...
First you need an Ohm Meter or Multimeter.
Set the meter to read Ohms, and touch the leads together, the meter should show a low resistance confirming it works.
Turn your radio on and remove the microphone.
If the radio has receive audio without the mic being plugged in, that's one less thing you have to look for. If not, no problem.
First touch the black lead from you meter to the chassis of the mic plug on the radio.
While holding the black lead on the mic plug's chassis, touch the red lead to each one of the radios mic pins until the radio keys up. That's your PTT or TRANSMIT pin, write it down.
While holding the black lead on the mic plug's chassis, touch the red lead to each one of the leftover pins until you hear receive audio. That's your RECEIVE pin, write it down.
NOTE: If you radio recieves without the mic, skip this step and do not connect the microphone's receive wire in the end.
You have two pins left, ground and modulation. While holding the black lead on the mic plug's chassis, touch the red lead to the plug that shows the least resistance on your meter. If it's a movement type meter, the needle should bury. If it's a digital meter, you should see all zeros. This is your GROUND/SHIELD pin, write it down.
So you have found, GROUND, TRANSMIT, and RECEIVE. That leaves MODULATION, which should be the remaining pin.
You can also first touch the pins on the chassis of the mic plug until you find the one that is ground right of the bat, which may make it easier for you.
The wiring color codes for a Turner Hand Mic are as follows...
SHIELD - GROUND
WHITE - MODULATION
RED - RECEIVE
BLACK - TRANSMIT

Thanks for the help guys. I do have a meter and will try that. I did forget to add the stock mic wiring which is 1-black,2-gray,3-white,and 4-yellow. I dont know if that would help figure it out or not? Thanks again. Todd |
