I have heard it both ways that finals can get weak and that they don't get weak but die or blow. Would someone please clear this up?

finals -can- get weak. had a radio with a weak final about 2 weeks ago. it was a connex 3300 that would only do around 15-18wpep. modulating audio levels were correct (viewed with oscope). drivers input(base) and output(collector) was correct (checked with spec-an). finals input(base) was good but output(collector) was not. replaced final and without any tuning the output was around 30wpep. i have had this more than once, but it is much more common that the final just blows out. |
