I got a buddy with a Delta Force that has a carrier on sideband when its cold....After it warms up a while it will lose the carrier. Any suggestions on what might be causing it?? It just started happening this week

that sounds like a problem in the balanced modulator area. i would spray this area with circuit chiller to track down the faulty component.

Buck

Or, just try spraying the Carrier Balance control (VR-107) with a good contact cleaner. Run the control back and forth while you spray it.

Next, key the Mic and while watching your power meter, adjust the pot to zero carrier on upper sideband.

If the problem still exists the next morning when you first turn it on, then take Tech8541 good advice and dig deeper into the circuit.

i know i'm glad to see you back. you help a lot with some of the older radios that were being made when i was in diapers. so needless to say, i don't have any experince with them. its nice to have someone around who does have this experience, and can say 'try this' or 'try that' without having to break out a schem to do so.

Jeff,
I am overseas so am not here real regularly but yes,...I noticed you had stepped aside for a bit. Glad to see you back.

I hope all has been well for you. I'll chat more once I'm home and internet access is regular again. Sure wish I had a radio out here :-).

As you surely noticed, we now have Tech8541 who has joined us as an "official" Copper Tech, and Tech181 is now back. With all the other techs such as 307, 808 and 671, it just keeps getting better and better here!

Talk to you all on the radio sometime soon.....

Tech8541

Thanks for the flowers Rick.

Just so you know, I am happy to leave the SMT boards to the High Tech guys like you that are the masters with them. I just haven't got the eyes (or patients) any more for that kind of work. But never the less, I have a lot of respect for you with the kind of work that you do with SMT. I, for one, sure am glad you're here.

One more thing, don't ruin your eyes before their time working with this stuff Rick. A headband magnifier will take a lot of strain off of them.

Jeff.

Alsworld

Thanks for the kind words Al.

I see that you decided not to retire after all. I guess you like being where you're need most.

Thank you Al for being a part of what keeps our country strong and free. My hat is off to you and all those who serve in our armed forces.

God bless and take care Al.

Jeff.
