1 to 1.5 watts maximum. That is a super low-drive amplifier.

Is your SuperStar-3900 the model with a single final or does it have the duel finals?

If you drive that tiny amp too hard, you will soon notice that it will heat up verrrry quickly. Heat is what destroys RF power devices in amplifiers by driving them hard.

If your radio is the duel final version, it has easy capabilities of 38 to 40 watts PEP by itself if it was set up correctly.

According to the Spec Sheet of the KL-40 and 60, it will do 25-35 watts on A-M with 1-5 watts of drive. Since you have to double power just to come up 1/2 S-Unit on the receiving end, the KL-60 does not have enough intestinal fortitude to safely accomplish this because your radio itself will easily do that much, again, (if it was set up correctly).

In the case of a duel final radio, the KL-60 gives absolutely no advantage in RF power gain. I would opt for the KL-300. They're cheap and can really strut their stuff and will make that SuperStar of yours kick butt on the air.

The above is only my opinion based on fact of the Specs.

Get yourself one of Coppers KLM-300s. Unbelievable prices and more watts per dollar.

Your radio will make one of those sing.

If it has a heatsink on the back of the radio, then more than likely you have a dual final radio.
