Is it the norm to have around 2.4 swr when the power is turned on? It's swinging to about 550 when Xmting.

Wildrat,

Yes most will see an increase in SWR Reading's when an amplifier is added in line.

That is why it is Very important to First place your SWR / Watt meter between your Radio and Amplifier to check SWR then if SWR is good place it between Amplifier and Antenna.

hey how about runing a swr meter between your radio and amp and your big watt/mod/swr meter after so u can always check every thing. always thought about doing it but never seen any one else do it. i dont see how it could hurt

Pp1616,

The more piece's of Equipment & Jumper's that you have in line give's you more of a chance for problem's.

The LESS you use, the LESS chance of any problem's poping up.

Pp1616,

Adding another Meter in line should not cause any problem's.

Or you can always check SWR with the AMP Off just useing one Meter or you can have the two SWR Meter's in line with 1 SWR Meter to monitor between the Radio and Amp and 1 SWR Meter between Amp and Antenna if you choose to.

My mtr is after the amp, this is how I always have done it. I always check my swr without anything on before I xmit with anything that might blow my sistors, which I have done before. So I am over cautious now. thanks again Mr.808

Gotcha, I tried to put my 72 chevelle wagon on the road for the first time today for some test driving. My SWR may be good but I broke down twice. I will do some more shakedown tomorrow, because I feel old at the moment.
