Tech 808, I just discovered that the Anttron Antenna Co., has a smaller version of the Anttron A-1700. It has the same specs, as it's taller brother. The only difference is that it has 2' of fiberglass rod, and 2' of stainless steel whip. My question is, would there be any performance differences between the two antennas, because of the height differences? Also, would height differences of other fiberglass whips such as the wilson silverloads, Firestick, and Francis whips affect overall gain or performances because of 1 antenna may be 2ft', 3ft, or 4ft, compared to a 6ft antenna? This anttron jr. would be perfect for my 5" mag-mount.

Wolverine,

From the report's from those I know who have the 1700 Jr they are Very Pleased with the Performance and the Shorter Antenna.

GREAT for Mag Mount Use.

The JR has the same #14 Wire as the 1700 just a Shorter S.S. Whip.

As for the the other Antennas you mentioned, I honestly cannot say as I have Never used them.

On the Wilson Antenna's I use the Wilson 1000 or 5000 Mag Mount's.

I will check with the COPPER FORUMMASTER and see if he will be carrying the 1700 Jr if there is enough demand for the Shorter Version.

Thanks, I've been using my Wilson 5000 for my roof-top, and you can't beat the wilson as far as "Bang for the buck", in as far as performance, and windloading at speed. I've ruled out 4' firesticks. So now, I'm down to deciding to either go with a 4' wilson silverload, or francis. And that's only if there isn't enough demand for the 1700 Jr. Thanks again.

Wolverine

In reference to the 1700 and 1700-Jr, you are giving up some distance and broadbanding with the shorter Jr antenna.

Longer whips mean the coil needs less windings. RF that is coming off of the whip is what people are hearing on the receiving end-not what is lost in the coil.

In your case however, since you are limited to the use of a mag mount, I would opt for the 1700-Jr. Personally, I would take a 1700-Jr any day over 1/4 wave Wilson-anything.

That's nice to know, KcOgxz. And you would actually pick the A-1700 Jr, over a wilson 5000 mag mount? Why?. I would pick the Jr., over a wilson silverload, only because the silverload uses 18 guage wire, where as the anttron uses 14 guage, for greater power handling capacity (1000 watts vs 2000 watts. I also like the anttron's concept of combining a steel whip and fiberglass mast. Just my thoughts on the subject.
