where would one tap into on these radios for the addition on an external s-meter.

If you are refering to the "NON" SMT RCI-2950, try this.
Ground one side of the S-meter and run a wire to the cathode side of D-14 from the other side of the S-meter. If that doesn't work, try the anode side of the diode.
LOL. If neither one of them work, hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about can help you because I'm handicapped by working from a memory that desperately needs to be scanned and defraged.

good info on the old 2950's do you know where to go on the dx versions the "smt".
i have both so ill try that on the older one but i would like to do the new one as well.
i also plan on installing a meter to read micro volts just for fun for those fellas that are always tweeking thier stations. so i can give a more accurate reading for them.

d14 is the correct diode for the dx models. another place to connect is at j18 (a 3 wire, wire harness). find the slot marked 'MR' and solder the wire to the bottom side of the pcb. that way, you know you are on the correct side of the diode. it is also much easier than finding d14, especically if you do not have the serv. man. that shows the board layout. the pcb in the radio is not marked.
also take note that the external s-meter will not be calibrated. the only way for it to be calibrated is with the use of an external rf generator. but it is better than the bar graph in the radio, and much easier to see. |
