1. Can you replace the coax on the trunk mount?
I know you can buy the mount without the coax and u can buy the coax.
2. Can you make the trunk mount into a roof mount?
I was told there were instructions for taking apart the mount with the kit and i was told it said how to make it a roof mount.
3. If I did replace the coax, or made it a roof mount, how much coax do i need?
I have large quantities of RG 58 and RG 8x. Just need to know how much.
I dont want to hear that I need a new wilson! I have a K40 and I have been happy with it. I also plan on getting more K40s for other vehicles I have.
I wear a K40 hat for a very good reason, and I am not going to change my antenna cuz someone likes somethin else. Just like I am not going to put up a different base antenna cuz someone likes something other than my Antron 99. |

I can't help you with this one as I have never Owned, or used K-40 Antennas.
Maybe someone who has owned one or has done these modification's can offer you some help.

1) The coax has a special connector that connects to the mount and coil. K40 doesn't list this connector on their parts list. Without this connector it would not be possible to replace the coax. As you know they do sell a complete cable assembly.
2) Yes the trunk mount can be mounted as a trunk or a roof mount.
3) The recommended length for coax is 18 feet. If you cannot use 18 feet, you can use a minimum of 9 feet with increments of 3 feet (example: 9, 12, 15, 18).

If you ever opened up and compared a K-40s coil with (example) Wilsons' 1000 coil, you would instantly see why Wilson easily outsells the K-40 line. However, they both DO work.
Oh, I almost forgot. Wilson even has hats too!!

Forummaster: Very good job of wording the answer, I was going to use the same context of coax measurement, but you bet me to it. Myself in my 41 years in the hobby have used 18 feet which is a half wave length. Also I measure base coax in increments of 9 foot, makes for a big difference on the SWR meter. I use the K40 Trucker on a trunklid mount and does one heck of a good job.
