I have a Montgomery Ward Model 719 AM, Upper and Lower SSB radio. It keys 1 watt and swings 1 1/2 watts. 70% Modulation.(On AM). The bottom of the board has PC5833AA and the top of the board cites Uniden. What do I need to do to "open" this radio up? This radio has good ears and in really good condition. Please help.. |

MODULATION: CUT ~ R104
AM POWER: ADJUST ~ VR6
SSB POWER: ADJUST ~ VR7

And if you end up with the same results, try replacing the finals and see if your RF power returns.

Thanks for the responces guys. The VR6 and VR7 are indeed the correct adjustments for power. But, when I cut R104 the radio will only key at the same low power as before but not modulate at all. The model of the board is PC621AA not the PC5833AA I stated last post. I've read on previous posts that the R104 needs to be cut on model 719A and mine is a 719. Does that matter? Thanks for your help.

Help Techs! Cutting the R104 only cut my limited modulation. I've since cut R102 and R103 without working. I've re-soldered these back. Surely there is a way to kick this radio. Please give me any feedback even from a Uniden Grant (similar radio).

I'm suspecting the final is bad. Possibly what you are seeing on your power meter is the output from the driver. As I suggested in a previous post, replace the both of them and see what happens. It can't hurt.

Techs-
Where are these finals located on this radio? To replace them, I would get the same ones from Copper or would you suggest something better? (Could I rob from a different radio?) If Weakeststation is also right, which transistor woould you be talking about?
