anybody ever made a 11 meter full wave loop antenna. |

That makes for pretty big antenna. I'm curious to know how it will be supported.
If you do in fact go ahead with this antenna project, it would be very interesting to see your results. Keep us posted.

I built one the other day but the wire I used was too heavy for the frame. I'm going to try lighter wire. My frame is made of pvc pipe, two different sizes with hose clamps. The middle is suspect being on a small pvc 4 way 1/2" connection junction. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
I also read somewhere that you must use 75ohm tv cable to get the match right. What do you all think? I used RG-58u and got around a 2:1 match, but the antenna was standing up against a building with butt on the ground.

I have a dipole up that is like 1:1 on swr match and the thing works great. The biggest challenge with the loop is building a light enough frame to string the wire around it. I did some research and it is stated that it works best as a perfect circle. It is still a mystery to me how the thing works. It looks like you would short out hooking both ground shield and center feed wire to the same wire.

yea,
gain for a circle loop is 1.13dbd vs .86dbd for a cubical shaped loop. but an octigon shaped loop will yeild the same gain as a circle loop within realistic measure. and is much easyier to make.
resistance is a bit higher with the circle quads than the cubes or even the delta loops witch have a gain of .55 dbd or so and closer to about 105 ohms verses the 130 ohms for the circle loop.
the intermediate design yeilds the highest gain of any single loop element at 1.5 dbd.
if size isnt a factor you could try a curtain quad array or a dopple quad. both yeild much more gain than single loops. |

my 2 meter dopple quad hanging on the wall of my shack hits a repeater 35 miles away just as well as my dual 5/8th wave colinear antenna out side on a 20 foot pole.
you can be sure i plan on investigating the use of this antenna in a array as soon as i can. |
