I was wondering if any of the techs had any dealings with this radio? Is it as powerful as the promos say? And how is the recieve on this radio. I was wondering if there was any modding that can be done power wise or is it maxed from factory? Thanks for any input.

I have one its a fine radio .... WELL MADE NO SHODDY JUNK. The following is just based on MY RADIO.

RECEIVER has good noise limiting/blanking, Sensitvity, selectivity and overload and LOTS OF AUDIO ...... just plane HOT!

Transmitter LOUD AUDIO VERY LOUD! Good power output stable and CLEAN on my shop test station.

FREQUENCY COVERAGE ... WELL ....Here's the catch.
If your not a ham its fine for a FREEBANDER who likes AM IT'S GOT TO BE THE BEST AM FREEBANDING RADIO OUT THERE.
That said i bought mine for use on 10 meters AM (29.0-29.15 )and it has a problem on that band you cant go on EVEN frequencys making it useless for AM. Since this radio also does FM i thought it would work well on that band too but again no even frequencys USELESS on 10 meters.

You want my opinion it's a VERY nice radio and i'm waiting for a mod for the even frequencys..... it's a keeper.

I cannot seem to find where the particular adjustments are on this radio, to increase modulation, adjust the dead key and so on. Do you all have that information? Thanks.

Hi_lander,

WELCOME TO THE COPPER FORUM!

The S-3 is set to the Max on Everything from the Factory and needs no adjustments.

All of the controls and functions are listed in the owners manual.

Honestly, when I was doing the Review on the MAGNUM S-3 I found nothing that needed any adjustments.

You can read my Review on the MAGNUM S-3 in the area below here on the Forum:

It has the Top Gun Modulator in it that Needs no adjustments and the Power is controled by the variable power control on the front of the radio.

The New MAGNUM radios are some of the First radios to come out from the factory that need NO ADJUSTMENTS.

Now we need to get you to join our CEF RADIO CLUB

It's a small board with little jumpers on it, like a cd-rom, hard drive etc has on them for setting master or slave. I hope this helps.

Ranger87black,

CLICK on the LINK below.

The conversion is the same on the S-3 / S-3-50 and S-3-80.

It shows you were the jumpers are located and they are VERY SMALL and you may need tweezers move them to change the band coverage to what you want.

Hope this help's,
